Connect During Everyday Routines

Suggested age: 0–3 months

A small moment in a routine

Everyday care can leave room for connection, but your baby’s comfort and safety come first. You do not need to turn every routine into a learning activity.

Try it together

1. Choose a calm moment

When your baby is secure and comfortable, choose a quiet part of dressing or settling after care. During feeding or bathing, keep your attention on safety and follow your child’s care team’s guidance.

2. Narrate one small thing

Use a relaxed, familiar voice to say what you are doing, or hum a short tune. A few words are enough.

3. Leave space for your baby

Pause and notice what happens. If your baby seems settled, you can continue gently. If they turn away, fuss, or seem uncomfortable, pause or finish the interaction.

What to remember

Care routines do not need to become practice tasks. A quiet, comfortable moment is enough.

A gentle reminder

Babies respond in different ways. There is no response you need to get. Stop if your baby seems uncomfortable, and follow any individual guidance from your child’s healthcare professional.
