Invite Your Child into a Simple Home Task

By Down Syndrome Digital ·

A task you can share

Everyday tasks can be a chance to be together. Choose a simple activity that is safe for your child and easy to pause.

Try it together

1. Choose one safe item

For example, invite your child to place a large, clean tea towel in a laundry basket or help fold it with you. Keep cleaning products, appliances, sharp objects, hot items, and heavy loads out of the activity.

2. Show what you are doing

Use a short phrase such as “towel in” or “fold together.” Your child can watch, touch the towel, help in their own way, or simply stay nearby.

3. Let the task end naturally

There is no need to repeat instructions or complete the task perfectly. Thank your child if they joined in, and move on when either of you is ready.

What to remember

Participation can look different from one day to another. The shared moment matters more than completing a chore.

A gentle reminder

Stay with your child and choose a task suited to their age and abilities. An adult should handle appliances, chemicals, hot or sharp items, and anything heavy.
