Look at a Bold Pattern Together

A simple picture to share

Some families enjoy looking at bold black-and-white patterns together. This is a quiet play idea, not a way to test or train your baby’s vision.

Try it together

1. Choose a safe picture

Use a large, sturdy picture or an age-appropriate toy with no loose or detachable parts. Keep it in your hand rather than attaching it to a cot or placing it in a sleep space.

2. Offer it during a comfortable moment

When your baby is awake and settled, hold the picture at a comfortable distance. There is no exact distance or direction you need to use.

3. Let your baby choose

Your baby may look briefly, look for longer, look elsewhere, or not seem interested. You can quietly describe the picture, then pause or put it away whenever your baby seems ready.

What to remember

There is no need to move the picture repeatedly or wait for your baby to follow it. Sharing a calm moment is enough.

A gentle reminder

This activity is not a vision check and does not assess development. Keep your baby supervised and follow the picture or toy’s age and safety guidance. If you have concerns about your baby’s vision, contact your child’s healthcare professional.
