Look Through a Family Photo Book Together

By Down Syndrome Digital ·

A small moment to share

Looking at familiar pictures can be a relaxed way to spend time together. There is no need for your child to name anything or respond in a particular way.

Try it together

1. Choose a few pictures

Use a sturdy photo book or a few large, securely held pictures. Keep loose photos and small pieces out of reach if your child may mouth them.

2. Follow your child’s interest

Sit together and let your child look, point, move, make a sound, or turn away. You can name a person, pet, or familiar object they seem interested in.

3. Keep it easy

There is no need to ask repeated questions or finish every page. Pause, change the page, or put the book away whenever either of you is ready.

What to remember

The point is sharing a moment, not practising words or checking what your child remembers. Looking quietly together counts.

A gentle reminder

Choose materials that are intact and safe for your child’s age, and stay nearby throughout the activity.
