Make Everyday Moments Familiar

By Down Syndrome Digital ·

Suggested age: 0–3 months

A familiar cue, not a strict schedule

Every family finds its own rhythm. A small, familiar phrase can make an everyday moment feel recognizable, while leaving room for your baby’s needs to change.

Try it together

1. Choose a simple moment

Pick an awake, comfortable moment outside feeding or sleep, such as getting ready to go out or settling after a change.

2. Add a familiar phrase

Say a few words about what you are doing, or hum the same short tune. Keep the care routine itself as you normally would.

3. Follow your baby’s cues

Pause and notice whether your baby seems settled or needs a break. You can shorten or skip the interaction whenever it does not feel right.

What to remember

A routine can be flexible. There is no need to keep a timetable or make every moment into a learning activity.

A gentle reminder

This is an idea for connection, not sleep or feeding guidance. Follow your child’s individual care advice, and speak with a healthcare professional about questions concerning sleep or feeding.
