Make Room for Comfortable Movement
By Down Syndrome Digital ·
Suggested age: 0–3 months
Notice movement without rushing
Babies move in their own ways and at their own pace. This guide focuses on noticing comfort, not teaching a movement or reaching a milestone.
Try it together
1. Follow your care team’s positioning guidance
Choose a comfortable, supervised position for your awake baby, following any individual recommendations from your child’s healthcare professional or therapist.
2. Leave a little room to move
Make sure the nearby space is clear and comfortable. Let your baby move naturally; there is no need to pull, stretch, or repeatedly reposition their arms or legs.
3. Watch for comfort
Notice whether your baby seems settled or needs a change or a break. If a position seems uncomfortable, stop and return to the guidance you have been given.
What to remember
A calm opportunity to move is not an exercise routine. Your baby does not need to perform a particular movement for this moment to count.
A gentle reminder
This guide does not assess motor development or replace advice from your child’s care team. Ask your healthcare professional or pediatric therapist about positions and activities that are right for your baby.
