Take Turns with Your Baby’s Sounds
By Down Syndrome Digital ·
A simple back-and-forth
Your baby may make sounds in many different ways, or may be quiet. You can share a moment without trying to bring on a particular sound.
Try it together
1. Listen first
Choose a relaxed, awake moment and notice whether your baby makes a sound or movement.
2. Offer a gentle echo
If it feels natural, repeat the sound once or answer with a short word or tune. Let your own voice stay relaxed.
3. Leave space
Pause. Your baby might make another sound, move, listen, or turn away. There is no need to shape their mouth, repeat the sound until they copy it, or continue when they seem ready to stop.
What to remember
This is a shared moment, not a practice target. Your baby does not need to copy you or take a turn.
A gentle reminder
